Greenfield Dentists Provide Overview of Invisalign

November 9, 2012

There was a time in history when tin grins were the mainstream way to straighten teeth. For adolescents and teens that were not born with perfect alignment, bracket-and-wire braces were the only way to fly. After all of those often uncomfortable months of getting wires tightened and twisted, fastening rubber bands from the top to the bottom, and not being able to eat popcorn or chew gum, the expectation was that you should continue wearing a retainer for a set period of time. This was a long and arduous process to attain straight teeth, but it was the only choice. Your Greenfield dentists, Drs. Bagley, Goodwin, and Hrinda, explain how patients now have an easier option when straightening their teeth, thanks to a virtually invisible form of customized teeth straighteners called Invisalign.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign is a great choice for people with over-crowding, cross-bites, poor spacing, under-bites, and over-bites. We see a lot of patients who sported traditional bracket-and-wire braces when they were younger, but neglected their retainer wearing recommendations, and ended up with crooked teeth all over again. This is a common issue, and nothing to feel bad about. Thankfully, with Invisalign, you don’t need to worry about anyone knowing that you’re going through a teeth straightening process. You can go to work, out on dates, and even get your picture taken with no one being the wiser. You can also take the aligners out when you eat and brush your teeth, so there’s no need to worry that you have food caught in your braces. (more…)

Greenfield Dentists Can Help With Dental Anxiety

November 2, 2012

Dental anxiety is nothing that a patient should be ashamed of. In fact, there are very few people that march into a dental office without some degree of nerves. You are definitely not alone if you put off checkups, or dental procedures, out of fear of pain and discomfort. Many dentists are beginning to take the phobias of their patients seriously, by ensuring that they provide an office that will put even the most fearful minds at ease. Your Greenfield dentists, Drs. Bagley, Goodwin, and Hrinda, describe some of the efforts we have made to offer our patients a relaxing and pleasant dental experience.

A Friendly Staff Puts Patients at Ease

When you’re feeling apprehensive, sometimes it just takes a warm, smiling, friendly face to calm the nerves. Our office staff and doctors put forth the effort to make you feel comfortable the moment you walk through our door. Communication is paramount in setting someone’s mind at ease, so we are open to answering any questions you might have. Feel free to express your concerns and even your fears. There is no worry that won’t be taken seriously. We will also explain the instruments and procedures to you, as we understand that fear of the unknown is the biggest part of dental anxiety. If you know that you are well taken care of, and understand the methods and procedures we’ll be using to keep your smile attractive and healthy, you’ll be amazed at how pleasant going to the dentist can be.

Greenfield Dentists Wish You a Happy Halloween

October 25, 2012

In a time in American history when most people are on a pretty strict budget, the average household will still spend around $44 on Halloween candy. Is your house already overflowing with lollipops, bubblegum, gummies of all shapes and sizes, and, of course, chocolate?  As delicious as candy can be, excessive sugar consumption can be a contributor to cavities. The bacteria that cause tooth decay enjoy sugar as much as a trick-or-treating first grader. The problem is bacteria can metabolize sugar into lactic acid, wearing down your tooth enamel. Still, we don’t want to spoil the fun, so your Greenfield dentists, Drs. Bagley, Goodwin, and Hrinda, want to share some fun facts about candy, as long as you promise to keep up with brushing and flossing during this tempting time of year.

Chocolate Can Actually Be Good for Your Teeth

You’ve probably heard reports that chocolate can be good for your heart, in moderation, but good for your teeth? Theobromine is a compound in the cocoa bean, which has been shown to actually harden tooth enamel.  According to the American Dental Hygienist’s Association (ADA) chocolate can inhibit Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria that cause cavities. Of course, if you want to enjoy chocolate for dental and overall health benefits, the darker, plain forms of chocolate are your best choices. (more…)
